The top requested “do not play” songs involve many of the songs you’d think of, but there are a few that are always surprising to people!

A “do not play” song list is a list of songs that many couples put together. These songs are those that they don’t want played under any circumstances on their wedding day. These songs might be by artists that people don’t like, songs that are overly sexual, or songs that just kill the party.

The most common songs we see are:

• Hokey Pokey – or basically any song that is a typical line dance song
• Blurred Lines – a song that makes many people uncomfortable

• Single Ladies – a lot of people see this one as overdone!
• Someone like you by Adele – a song about finding a new partner like your ex
• Fake love by Drake – I think the title explains it all, no?
• Before he cheats by Carrie Underwood – I mean, this one has to be a given

• Rude by Magic!
• Jolene by Dolly Parton

The most common artists we see are:

• R Kelly
• Kanye
• Ed Sheeran – many people see his music as too slow
• Britney Spears

• Cupid shuffle – some people love it, some people hate it
• Taylor Swift – ooh a controversial one
• You give love a bad name by Bon Jovi
• Lizzo – after the controversy of her lawsuit, a lot of people have started adding her to the list

A do not play list is such a personal choice. We’ve seen guests request 90% of these songs and artists, which is why it’s important to put anything you don’t want played on a list for your DJ to avoid!
