You might feel a little lost after you get engaged – we hear couples all the time say that they don’t know what to do next. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or you just don’t want to plan your own wedding, reach out to a wedding planner. Hiring a wedding planner can be hard, but these six questions will make it easier.
Additionally, make sure that you have a discussion with your potential planner before you book with them.
What’s included in your packages?
When hiring a wedding planner, be sure to ask them what is included in each package. You don’t wanna be booking your vendors and find out that you’ve hit your vendor hiring limit with your planner. Make sure to know these things before you book.
For example, Daisy + Sun Events includes different things in each package. You’re going to get more services included in full planning, about half of the services in the partial planning package, and a much smaller set of services in the coordinating package. One example – for full planning packages, we include up to 12 vendor bookings/communications, while for partial planning packages, we include up to 6. In coordinating, we provide recommendations for vendors, but we don’t handle any of the communication or booking processes beforehand.
Do you work with weddings in our budget?
First, make sure that you know your estimated budget that you’re willing to spend on your entire wedding. Next, make sure that your potential planner is able to work with that budget.
Daisy + Sun Events works with most budgets, but we do require a minimum budget of $28,000 for most weddings. Minimums can definitely change depending on the location you’re in as well. For example, we have a different minimum for our Oregon weddings than we would for a Texas or New York wedding planning service.
How many people will you provide working our wedding?
It’s important to know how many hands there will be on your wedding day to help with set up, timeline assistance, etc. We require at least 2 people on each wedding day. However, when the set up or decor is more intricate, we can work with up to 4+ people on our team on a wedding day. Remember that more hands does equal more costs, so this can definitely affect the costs of hiring a wedding planner.
Are you insured?
This one is SO important y’all.
Your potential planner needs to be insured. This not only shows that they’re legit and legal, but it also covers them and possibly you, depending on the circumstance.
At Daisy + Sun Events, we are insured for each and every wedding and event day.
How does the wedding planning process work with you?
Truth is, you’ll be working with this person for your entire wedding planning process, so you need to be sure that you like not just them, but also their process. Ask about the different systems they use, what their planning meetings look like, etc.
For Daisy + Sun Events, our process varies depending on the package you booked, as well as what you’re looking for. During our first planning meeting, we will chat about how involved you want to be, which really adjusts the way some of the process goes, specifically when it comes to booking vendors. Our full planning package consists of monthly planning meetings, full design curation, and way more. Our partial planning package consists of planning meetings every other month, partial design assistance, and much more, too. For this package, your planning portal helps keep you on track as well, while we are your guidepost during planning. Our coordinating package is much different – you can chat with us any time for advice or questions, but our actual process doesn’t start until about 8-10 weeks out.
How does your team work?
Each planning company is different. In a lot of companies, you’ll have a lead planner handling most of your pre-wedding details and planning, and that same person will be the one that is the lead planner on your wedding day, alongside assistants.
At Daisy + Sun, you will have one of our 3 lead planners assigned to you at the beginning of the process. This person is picked depending on your personality, wedding vibe, and level of service needed.
Hiring a wedding planner can be a scary process. It’s a major decision. That’s why we always recommend chatting with 2-4 planners before booking with one. Explore your options!
