Rain on your wedding day? This is how to handle it.

One of the biggest scares and worries when wedding planning is, “What if it rains??”. We totally understand this worry, especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding. Even if it rains on your wedding day, your event can still be gorgeous. It’s all about having a back-up plan, which we call a “rain plan”. 

Have a backup plan.

Make sure to make a plan for what you are going to do if it rains on your wedding day. Wedding planners are skilled in this. Daisy + Sun works on creating a rain plan as soon as 3 months out from your wedding day. 

The most common rain plans are having a tent on retainer, having a venue where you have the option to move indoors, providing umbrellas for each guest, etc. 

Weather changes quickly – the 24-hour decision. 

Many couples are surprised by the fact that rain plans are often enacted 24 hours in advance of the wedding day. We try to hold off as long as we can on making that call, but once we hit the day before, it’s necessary to make the adjustments. While you might be sad about the idea of it raining on your wedding day, having a beautiful, solid rain plan will make up for it. 

Changing portrait spots. 

You might be dead-set on having your first look in the open field area, but that just might not be feasible. Planners work with your photographer to ensure that there is a proper backup plan for portraits, and we are confident that a good photographer-planner duo can find a beautiful plan b for your portraits. 

Embrace the rain. 

We’ve had couples just embrace the rain as if it wasn’t there. After all, now you can dance in the rain on your wedding day. Always have at least 2 umbrellas for yourselves, just in case!
