Should you have children at the wedding? Honestly, this is totally personal preference! If you’re dying to have kids at your wedding or simply don’t care, then let ’em come! However, if you’re hesitant, worried, or just don’t like the idea, you don’t have to have children there.
There’s also some happy mediums that you can provide too! Options include providing childcare options (doesn’t mean you have to pay for it) or providing a end time for kids. For example, we’ve seen weddings where couples are okay with having children at the wedding until 8pm, but after that, kids should have other arrangements.
BEWARE – some people might get frustrated with a no-kid or time-limited policy, but, this is YOUR wedding day, not theirs. The people who truly want to be there will be there for you. And, let’s be honest, invitations to weddings are usually sent out at least 10 weeks before the wedding, which is plenty of time before the wedding to find a babysitter.
There’s always the option of providing childcare options. Maybe you hire on a few babysitters for a couple hundred bucks. Or maybe you have some people ready to watch the kiddos, but the parents pay them. There’s also always the option of just letting them figure it out, too!
Now, if you are having kiddos at your wedding, we highly suggest having some activities set up for them. This could be lawn games, coloring pages, or other fun projects. We always urge couples to have a kids’ table set up! Additionally, you’re going to want to be sure that you have kid-friendly beverages. Water is always an option, but having some juices or sodas can always be a fun thing for the kids, too! Also, this can help them feel included (and not so bored)!
Having children at the wedding is a tough choice to make. But, don’t forget it’s your day! This decision is ultimately up to you, and if you decide not to have kids there, uphold those boundaries. You got this!
